BRS Reporting - Institutional Awards

Question about how to report an Institutional Award that has 'no need component' attached to it.

We have an scholarhip we have been granted since 2015-16 year. This is funded by a Donor and has no amount from TSA funding. The award is adjudicated strictly on merit/extra-curricular activies and Indigenous status. Specifically this is the outline for the award:

Eligible candidates are full-time undergraduate students, not in Year 1, who are registered at the Laurier Brantford campus and who self-identify as Indigenous persons. The scholarship is granted to the candidate who meets all academic program requirements and has significant extracurricular involvement or volunteer work on campus or in the local community.

Based on the above, once awarded we declare in our BRS upload as 'NON-TSA Bursary/Scholarhip/NON-EXEMPT. This award then is used as a resource in the student's OSAP calculation.

The recipient this year is challenging how we report to the Ministry because they were told (when they contacted the Ministry directly) that there was an 'Exempt Indigenous Funding' category that our office should be using for all awards with the Indigenous factor.

I have revied the BRS portal and the manual and currently have an inquiry in to our Program Administrator but.. has anyone ever ran into anything similar? Are we missing something about coding Non-TSA awards?

Thanks for any insight you can give.

Thank you everyone for your input and reassurance! I have an email sent to the Minsitry and will wait for their response before replying to the student again. It is challenging (has gone to our Ombudsperson now) since the Ministry gave out the wrong information, I need THEM to retract to because the student is not believing what I am telling them (she isn't being beligerent, just being firm on what she wants and expected). Will see where this goes.

Merry Christmas! 🎄🎅
