BSWD Rationale

What do other FAO offices do when it comes to BSWD applications and letters of rationale from their Disability Services Office. The manual sets us up for interpretation issues (as always). Do you just accept the box that was checked on Section D/page 7 of the application and not require the actually written rationale from the DSO office? Help! :-)

Hi Kathy

It depends.. if the DVF includes information about what is required, I don't specifically ask for an additionale rationale. Depending on what is being requested, our ALC office will include in my folder with the application their rationale. But... there are times when they don't include one for me but i know they have all of their rationale in their files... and if I am ever concerned about what is being requested, we have a very open communication back and forth until we are both satisfied.

Any request that we can't agree on (or that the student is asking for but they don't agree with) we send to the Ministry for a decision.

BSWD payment from MCU

Hi, We signed our TPA agreement in August 2025 and have had no reply yet from MCURES about timing when funds will be sent. We have run out of funding and have had to hold all incoming applications.

We had some retirements last year and have lost some institutional knowledge! Trying to understand historically when the funding comes in for BSWD from the Ministry so we can give an idea to students and AccessAbility office what the wait times could be.

Thanks!

Parent's Separated but living in same home

Did anything change about when parents separated but still lived in the same home? I know in the past we couldn't delete the one parent because both are in the home but... did this change due to cost of living etc? I have reviewed the policy manual but can't find anything specific.

Thanks

BSWD WORKING GROUP 2025-2026

Hello, OASFAA!

Happy Fall Term Start Up - I just wanted to present the dates for this year's Working Group chit chats :)

For new members, the OASFAA BSWD working group functions like a community of practice. Housed under the PD Committee, this working group will meet informally to support the BSWD portfolio. This is not an official committee nor is there a formal membership. Members can drop into sessions as needed to ask questions, problem solve, or discuss challenges for tangible support.

I am excited to announce the meeting dates for this academic year. Meetings will take place between 10:00am and 11:00am on the following dates:

  • Friday October 17th

  • Friday November 21st

25/26 Ontario Indigenous Bursary

Good morning,

I am wondering if any financial aid offices have received the 25/26 Guidelines for the Ontario Indigenous Bursary. I reached out last year, and some offices had received the guidelines from their Indigenous office.

Thank you for any help.

Dawn
