A few questions about BSWD
Hi all,
I was off over the past year so wasn't able to attend any BSWD working group meetings. We are looking at improving our internal processes and I have some questions for this group!
Our SAS office has raised concerns that our BSWD funding is quite low compared to their colleagues. Prior to covid we had about $40-50K per year. Now, we have around $16K. We were able to ask for more money one year, but that didn't translate into continued additional funds. How much are other institutions receiving for BSWD?
I am also curious what your staff to BSWD recipient ratio is and how involved SAS is in the the day to day financial and document management. How does that compare to your staff complement involved in Financial Aid and Awards? Like all things related to financial aid and awards, volume of manual work is increasing and the team is feeling the strain. So I am curious how other institutions are set up.
Does anyone have a process, spreadsheet, awards management tool for BSWD that they find particularly helpful?
If anyone is comfortable sharing intel (here or via email andra.drinkwalter@ontariotechu.ca), I would appreciate it!
Andra

Generally the Ministry has based our funding on the previous year expeditures. It is not always accurate as we could have increased applications in a given year so we do end up asking for some additional funding before the March deadline. Our DSO has no direct involvement in the financial or document management outside of submitting the documents to the FAO BSWD program for review and processing. As I am the only one dealing with BSWD here at Seneca FAO. Not really sure what you mean by the awards and FA side though.
