Specialized Transportation Request - Question
Our ALC office has a student requesting specialized transportation to be covered for her travel for her placement (she is registered in our part-time MSW program). There is not much direction in the manual about this and their office has significant questions about what is acceptable, the responsibility of things like insurance etc.
My questions:
There are some questions that we feel need to be answered before we even attempt to complete the BSWD application requesting funding. In the past, I have tried to reach out to MCU for clarification but they have always responded that they cannot answer without an application - is this the experience other FAO's have had?
How do I have the student and ALC complete the BSWD application for what they are hoping to access for transportation costs with outstanding questions? (ex. does the student book a vehicle in her name even though she can't drive and hire an EA/Driver? Who is responsible to ensure the assigned driver is licensed to drive? Who has the responsibility for insurance? Does the Ministry have 'preferred drivers'?
and example ALC gave me was that individuals renting through Universal Motion. must have their own insurance to cover any physical damage - if the student does not have their own insurance, can the cost of the insurance be included in the BSWD request? How do we insure the University and/or the Ministry will not be held liable in the event of an accident?
page 40 of the BSWD 24-25 manual refers to Family members as Service Providers.. would this also apply to someone who acts as a driver?
