PEA Up-Front Funding
Hi everyone, apologies if this has been asked before - I did a search and couldn't find anything. I'm also new to this role, so bear with me. I have a question about PEA referrals.
On Pg 33 of the 24-25 policy manual, it says PEAs can be funded up front through the BSWD only if an LD is suspected.
The third paragraph of that section says "If the PEA is related to an institutional request for accommodation alone... the decision to fund the PEA assessment is to be approved only when accompanied by a written rationale from the ASO explaining why it is required for the student's functional limitations".
Can anyone clarify what the manual means by "an institutional request for accommodation alone"? Does that mean the ASOs may have a bit of flexibility with PEA referrals?
Our ASO has a student they want to refer for a PEA, but the student's LD potential is a bit dicey (I don't know the full details, but from what I understand, they strongly suspect the student has a different disability that would benefit from a PEA). They don't refer students for PEAs unless they're pretty much positive there's an LD, and in this case they think it's possible, but it's not as strong a case as they typically get.
