French Documents
Hi All,
We are seeing an increase in the number of students submitting forms and documents in French for their OSAP applications. We do not have any fully bilingual staff in our office.
In the case of standard OSAP forms some staff may feel comfortable processing them, as there are standard checks for these. However, when there are accompanying documents (i.e. personal statement), we can no longer review these with any degree of certainty.
We understand that they can be sent to the Ministry for review, however, we know that there could be a very long processing time in this case.
I'm wondering how other instutions that might be in similar situations handle this?

Hi Lindsay, I'm not necessarily in the same situation as I am fluent in French and English. However, I've found the online translator DeepL is very good when I need to translate different dialects of French (mostly African French) to confirm I'm understanding the meaning. I've found very few times where the wording might not be exactly correct. I've tested quite a bit and it has been great. I would definitely recommend it as a resource.
