PT GRAD Students w. PD/PPD - Eligible for FT OSAP?

Hi all,

I hope you're well!

I have a question. Manual aside pls (as in, I'm not looking necessarily for what the manual says) - are there any schools who process PT GRAD files as FT apps due to their disability status?

I am aware the typical practice is PT GRAD program = PT OSAP. FT GRAD program = FT OSAP. I've been thinking about how students with disabilities may be disadvantaged by this though. Should we be considering them for FT?

If you want to respond to me privately, please email me bianca.marryshow@torontomu.ca.

Cheers,

Bianca

We do in some cases. Our internal policy is generally that we don't count courses for graduate students, we just look at FT or PT registration. However, for graduate students registered part-time, we have developed a form.

We ask part-time graduate students to have someone from their graduate department complete this to confirm their course load and upload to OSAP: https://registrar.utoronto.ca/wp-content/uploads/sites/368/2022/10/SGS-Course-Load-Confirmation-FT-APRIL-2020.pdf

This way we have something on file that indicates what percentage of a course load students are completing; and it allows graduate students with disabilities the option of applying for full-time OSAP if they are taking the minimum 40% course load.

In an ideal world they'd be able to receive FT OSAP without any extra paperwork, but we don't have that level of information in our student information system so we just make sure we have something on the file.
