SIN Check Fail Documentation

I am wondering how schools typically deal with this situation. We have had a few students come forward lately who had their SIN check fail. As a result, there seems to be a hard stop put on their application to prevent them from doing anything further until they fix the issue by either correcting the info with Service Canada, or by providing required documentation to our office to correct the OSAP profile. If they have to go to Service Canada, that's obviously up to them to do so. But, if they have to provide documentation to correct OSAP (i.e. name correction) the system seems to put a hard stop on everything with their application and they can't upload any documentation to us to make that correction.

The documentation these students have to submit for the correction often is a copy of their confirmation of SIN doc showing the correct name - this is not a document that students should ever be emailing to us with SIN info. And we have moved away from taking paper copies of documentation and clearly state to students that we can't accept documents brought in person. We have been making exceptions for these cases but it causes confusion for students, plus I'm not sure that having a paper copy of a SIN document accepted in our office is really an overly secure option either. I feel like there should be some way these students are allowed to securely upload this directly to their OSAP account? If the student clicks the how to resolve these issues instructions it simply tells them to contact the FA office with no upload option.

Is there a workaround to allow the student to do the direct upload that we're missing?

in cases like this, we take a paper copy and upload for them, but advise the student NOT to email it to us. but if you're a hard no on taking paper, that poses challenges. this may be something we need to approach through OSAP Systems, as I too would like students to have the ability to upload prior to app submission. Problem is, with no app, what school does it get assigned to?

the flip side is, if it's uncomfortable for the student and causes delays and confusion, maybe take a second to ensure your profile info is correct prior to confirming 😋 I think that point right there may be a sticking point as to why it won't gain any traction for prioritization, but still something worth exploring, cause maybe it's a quick fix
