Parent receiving OSAP
Hello,
I am reaching out for advise. I have a student whose parent is receiving OSAP, but because of reported 2024 parent income, the student is not eligible for funding (even CSG). The parent income was verified with CRA but they entered a lower expected income during the study period.
I had considered if a Parent Estimated Income update would be correct for the student, but not sure it is applicable. The parent study period began April of 2026. The form asks for the parent's estimated 2025 income which would not yet have changed significantly as it was before the study start date.
Student has reported that parents are not helping with their educational costs, but it does not meet the criteria for Extenuating Parental Circumstances. Is there any other option available to the student?
this is just one of those unfortunate drawbacks of late study periods within an academic year. I had asked years ago to consider using more 'up-to-date' income figures when SP's are so far out from the income year the app asks for, but it has not gained any traction.
